Chronic stress is the number one contributor to premature aging.
Did you know that chronic stress raises your risk for developing heart disease, cancer and obesity? It’s crucial to learn what causes you stress and develop healthy habits to manage it, or work with a practitioner to turn it into something that doesn’t bother you at all.
When you don’t process and release stress, it is habitually held in your body where it can create serious health consequences. An unhealthy habit often serves the purpose of stress management. Many people use destructive stress coping strategies that they chose when they were young and didn’t know there were better ways. These include smoking, drinking, drug use, procrastinating, blaming others and ignoring the problem. If that’s you, I challenge you to consider what would happen if you chose to be good to yourself instead?
Healthy stress management involves being prepared with a plan to prevent or minimize the damage from stress as it occurs – not waiting until you’re overwhelmed and can’t think of what to do.
